AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDERS (ASD): BEYOND THE BASICS A FRAMEWORK FOR INTERVENTION DESIGN
Date: February 25, 2010 Time: 8:45 am - 3:00 am Location: Show map Unified Technologies Center (UTC) Cuyahoga Community College 2415 Woodland Avenue Cleveland, Oh 44115 Contact: Emma Cornell Phone: 419-522-6207 In recent years service providers and educators have become more
aware of the characteristics and behaviors associated with individuals
identified with an autism spectrum disorder and more familiar with the
underlying causes of these behavioral challenges. However, many parents
and professionals continue to struggle to identify and implement
effective strategies to address the areas of concern or to teach new
skills. This workshop will present a framework that assists in the
selection and organization of interventions to create an individualized
and comprehensive plan to support an individual. Participants will
explore many strategies and interventions that can be included in each
area of the framework. Examples used throughout the workshop will
include those that can be used with children, youth or adults. Examples
will include individuals of various ages in order to assist
participants to understand how to create or modify a strategy for the
appropriate age group. Supports and interventions that are highlighted
during the presentation will be appropriate for those with classic and
high-functioning autism when individualized or adapted for the person
and the environment. The goal of this workshop is to introduce
participants to a method of selecting, organizing and prioritizing
interventions, as well as how to modify strategies to be more effective
for the individual and environment in which they may live, work or
learn. *5 hours of DODD certification has been approved for Adult Services, SSA, Early Intervention, County Board Member, Investigative Agent & Superintendent. Social Work certification has also been approved.
